Planning a garden is a daunting task.
I want to grow plants that we will actually enjoy, whether they be vegetables and herbs to eat, or flowers and shrubs to add colour and scenery. But, I also want plants that I can actually grow; as in, nothing high-maintenance or requiring a delicate touch.
Living in the middle of a cyclone belt (okay, not really, but it feels that way sometimes), I need plants that can withstand strong-ass winds. Tomato cages can only do so much against 100 km/h gusts; the plants have to do their part, too.
The plants also realllllly need to like sun, since most of our yard has sun from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. I successfully grew sunflowers one year, but the damn rabbits ate them the next.
That brings me to my next requirement: plants that either repel critters, or can be hidden behind some sort of fence option for protection.
That’s a lot of things to consider. And, if I pick the wrong plant and it dies, I’m left with nothing to show for all the time and effort put into its initial care.
*sigh*… This is why I lose sleep at night.
